Ondo PDP Slams Edo Election Results, Calling It ‘An Attack on Democracy’

Following the Edo State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) victorious with 291,667 votes. The PDP trailed with 247,274 votes, while the Labour Party garnered 22,763 votes.

In a statement issued by Ayo Fadaka, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity for the PDP Campaign Organisation, the party condemned the election outcome, labeling it “another assault on democracy in Nigeria.” The statement accused INEC of disregarding the true will of the people in the electoral process.

The PDP also criticized INEC for allegedly relocating the collation of votes from local government centers to its headquarters in Benin, a move they claim violates electoral laws and undermines transparency.

With the Ondo State governorship election approaching on November 16, the PDP emphasized its determination to ensure a fair and transparent process. The party warned that it would not tolerate any attempt to manipulate the votes, stressing its commitment to defending the people’s choice. Citing widespread dissatisfaction with the APC government over issues like rising inflation, poverty, and hardship, the PDP vowed to make the upcoming election a protest against these challenges and cautioned against any interference in the electoral process.
