NYSC Savings Debate Sparks Social Media Buzz: Is It Really Possible?

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been trending recently after a viral tweet by Chidi, who claimed he saved his entire NYSC allowance (“allawee”) and has yet to touch it. He went on to say that those who couldn’t do the same were irresponsible and careless.

However, Chidi left out a crucial detail: at the time, he had four additional sources of income. According to him, his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) paid significantly more than the NYSC allowance, he was tutoring privately, and even claimed to secure paid gigs through Twitter.

Interestingly, Chidi has had only 7,000 followers since 2014, leading many to question the legitimacy of his “Twitter gig” earnings.

NYSC veterans quickly responded, arguing that saving the entire allawee is unrealistic unless someone had no financial need for it. For most, the NYSC stipend was crucial for transportation, food, and other daily expenses.

Despite the backlash, Chidi insists that saving the full amount is achievable, sparking an ongoing debate.
