Nationwide Police Mobilized as October 1 Protest Organizers Defy Government Calls to Halt

Published

Nationwide police mobilization is underway as organizers of the October 1 protest in Nigeria remain firm in their decision to move forward, despite government and stakeholder efforts to halt the demonstration. This protest, aimed at addressing the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians, has sparked widespread attention, with authorities stepping up efforts to maintain order.

Prominent activist Deji Adeyanju, a key voice in the movement, has underscored the people’s right to protest and voiced frustration over President Tinubu’s unfulfilled promises to engage with demonstrators. Organizers argue that the issues from previous protests remain unresolved, prompting the need for continued action.

In response to the upcoming demonstrations, police commands across several states, including Lagos, Jigawa, and Kogi, are preparing to deploy forces to ensure peace and order. The Federal Government, however, continues to appeal for calm, urging protesters to reconsider.

The Lagos State government has limited protests to two specific locations, aiming to manage the situation more effectively, while the National Association of University Students (NAUS) has advised students to avoid participating in the protests, adding to the growing tension surrounding the event.
