Action Peoples Party Disowns Faction in Rivers, Endorses LG Poll

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has publicly rejected a factional group claiming to represent the party in Rivers State, affirming its support for the upcoming local government elections. APP National Chairman, Chief Uche Nnadi, labeled the group “impostors” and clarified that they hold no official position within the party.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Chief Nnadi called for the arrest and prosecution of these individuals by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Nnadi emphasized that Chief Sunny Nwokekoro is the legitimate APP Chairman in Rivers, replacing the former chairman, Hon Kenneth Atata.

Reiterating APP’s support for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Nnadi confirmed the party’s backing of the scheduled local government elections, set for Saturday, October 5, 2024. “Our party’s National Working Committee fully endorses the decision of RSIEC to proceed with the election in accordance with the court ruling of Justice I.P.C. Igwe,” Nnadi stated. The judgement mandates the Commission to conduct the election on the appointed date.

Nnadi also urged security agencies, particularly the police, to maintain neutrality and avoid being drawn into political conflicts. He emphasized the need for peace, law, and order, as outlined by the court’s directive.
