Shell Shock II Festival Faces Fallout After Rittenhouse Announcement

The Shell Shock II music festival in Orlando has faced significant backlash following the announcement of Kyle Rittenhouse as a guest, leading to the withdrawal of several bands, including the original headliner, Evergreen Terrace. Festival-goers who support Rittenhouse may be pleased, but fans hoping to see their favorite acts will be disappointed.

The unraveling began with Evergreen Terrace’s exit. The band released a statement explaining their decision, emphasizing their commitment to philanthropic causes, including support for veterans and child poverty. They stated, “We will not align with an event promoting murderers such as Kyle Rittenhouse capitalizing off of their pseudo-celebrity. Unfortunately, we did not do our due diligence with this particular event.”

Rittenhouse, who shot three individuals during a 2020 racial injustice protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, claimed self-defense and was acquitted of all charges. Following Evergreen Terrace’s departure, other bands, including Southpaw, Let Me Bleed, and American Hollow, also opted out of the festival, citing a desire to avoid political involvement.

In response to the mounting controversy, festival organizers, including The Antihero Podcast, have pushed back against the criticisms. A post on their Instagram stated, “We have been silent, but we are prepping. The liberal mob attempted to destroy Shell Shock. But we will not allow it. This is now about more than a concert. This is a war of ideology.”

As the festival now shifts to a Slipknot cover band as its new headliner, it remains to be seen how attendees will react to the changes.
