Bargain Hunt’s Izzie Balmer’s Unexpected Journey into Antiques

Izzie Balmer, known for her role on Bargain Hunt, initially joined the world of antiques without any set plans for her future. After completing a geography degree at Durham University, she found herself unsure of her career path. It wasn’t until she took a part-time job in a vintage shop and later completed work experience at a local auction house that her journey began.

Despite having no prior aspirations for the antiques industry, the auction house soon offered her a job, and the rest became history. Now a freelance auctioneer and valuer, Balmer specializes in jewellery and silver. With diplomas in gemmology and diamonds, she has firmly established herself as an expert in her field.

Before being scouted for Bargain Hunt, Balmer had already made a name for herself on Antiques Road Trip. Reflecting on her journey, she confessed that if she hadn’t pursued antiques, she might have ended up doing something less exciting, possibly even opening her own café. When not immersed in antiques, Balmer enjoys playing the viola for several Bristol orchestras and performing at weddings as part of a string quartet.
