Ododo Urges Peace as Kogi Faces Rising Tensions Over Vigilante Killing

Governor Usman Ododo has condemned vigilante justice in Kogi State, following the tragic killing of a Fulani settler in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area. Speaking through Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo, the governor urged citizens to uphold the rule of law and avoid taking justice into their own hands.

In response to the incident, Governor Ododo held an emergency security meeting in Lokoja on Saturday, bringing together Isanlu indigenes and Fulani settlers to address grievances and defuse tensions. “The governor convened this meeting to foster dialogue and promote peace between the parties involved,” the statement read.

Governor Ododo warned against extrajudicial killings, emphasizing that those responsible would face justice. He also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, which included suspending a traditional ruler implicated in the unrest.

To ensure lasting peace, the governor urged Isanlu leaders to discourage violence and cooperate with law enforcement in handling criminal activities. He praised the Fulani community for resisting retaliation and stressed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The meeting, attended by security agencies, government officials, and community leaders, resulted in a mutual agreement to work toward peace. Hon. Dare Joshua, Chairman of Yagba East Local Government, applauded the initiative, calling it crucial in averting further insecurity.
