Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested popular Nigerian musician, Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State. The arrest took place on the evening of November 27, 2024, while the artist was performing at a show.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who represents Speed Darlington, confirmed the incident in a post on his official social media page. Adeyanju revealed that the musician was detained while on stage, just days after returning to Nigeria earlier this week.

“Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote, updating fans and followers about the arrest.

At the time of this report, the reason for Speed Darlington’s arrest remains unclear. However, sources suggest that it could be linked to an ongoing investigation involving the musician. In the past, Speed Darlington was reportedly involved in a legal matter over alleged cyberstalking of fellow artist Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy. This earlier case had led to Darlington’s arrest in Lagos, followed by his transfer to Abuja and temporary detention by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team.
