7 NSCDC Officers Missing After Fierce Boko Haram Ambush

Team from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the neutralization of over 50 Boko Haram fighters during a deadly clash in Kaduna State. The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, also left seven NSCDC officers missing, with several others injured and currently receiving medical attention.

The confrontation occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. in the Farin-Kasa area of Chukun Local Government Area. The NSCDC convoy, comprising nine officers and 71 personnel from various commands, was ambushed by over 200 armed Boko Haram insurgents. The attack happened shortly after the team had patrolled national grid installations in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Despite being heavily outnumbered, the NSCDC team displayed remarkable resilience, pushing back the attackers and killing over 50 of them in the process. The attack has drawn attention to the ongoing risks faced by security forces operating in volatile regions of Nigeria.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi confirmed the incident, noting that efforts to locate the missing officers are ongoing. “Our team displayed exceptional bravery under extreme conditions. Search and rescue operations are in progress to recover the missing personnel,” Afolabi stated.

The special squad had been deployed to protect critical infrastructure following recent coordinated attacks on the national power grid, which caused widespread power outages across the country. NSCDC leadership condemned the ambush as a direct assault on national security and vowed to continue their mission to safeguard vital infrastructure.
