Delta Assembly Approves N43 Billion Budget Increase for 2025

Delta State House of Assembly has approved a notable increase to the state’s 2025 budget, raising it by N43 billion. The total budget now stands at N979 billion, up from the originally proposed N936 billion. This decision was reached during Tuesday’s plenary session, with lawmakers agreeing to enhance both capital and recurrent expenditures.

As part of the new budget, the capital expenditure allocation for 2025 has been raised to N630.5 billion, an increase from the N587.3 billion initially proposed. The recurrent expenditure also saw a slight adjustment, rising to N348.76 billion, compared to the original N348.71 billion.

The increase was recommended by Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, Chairperson of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, who presented the report during the plenary. The motion was moved by Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by Minority Leader Hon. Edafe Emakpor. The budget passed unanimously following thorough scrutiny by the Committee of Supply, chaired by Speaker Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

Speaker Guwor praised the lawmakers for their cooperation, emphasizing that the adjusted budget adheres to global best practices and aims to serve the collective interests of the state. In an interview with reporters, Hon. Okowa-Daramola explained that the focus of the increased capital budget is to drive significant infrastructural development throughout Delta State.
