FRSC Launches Crackdown on Fake Diplomatic and Unauthorized Number Plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has unveiled plans to intensify its fight against the use of fake diplomatic and unauthorized number plates on vehicles nationwide. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed directed this initiative as part of broader measures to bolster national security and curb criminal activities linked to fraudulent vehicle registration.

Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide emphasized that the crackdown targets illegal number plates bearing markings such as Diplomatic Number Plates, NYCN, Peace Ambassador, NAUS, CYMS, UN-Unity 01, UN-AMB, and NANS. These plates, which are neither produced by FRSC-authorized plants nor issued by state motor licensing authorities, are considered a security risk.

“These fake plates are being fabricated by suspected criminals and pose a threat to national safety,” the FRSC statement read. Vehicles displaying such plates will be impounded, and their owners prosecuted.

The Corps also confirmed plans to work with other security agencies to trace and shut down the production of these unauthorized plates, ensuring accountability for both manufacturers and users.

Members of the public have been urged to report vehicles displaying suspicious number plates to law enforcement authorities. This initiative underscores the FRSC’s commitment to safer roads and enhanced security across Nigeria.
