House of Representatives Launches Investigation into Bobrisky’s Alleged N15 Million Bribe to EFCC

The House of Representatives has officially launched an investigation into claims that Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, paid a bribe of N15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This decision arose from a motion of urgent public importance presented by Patrick Umoh during a plenary session on Thursday.

Earlier this year, Bobrisky received a six-month prison sentence for currency mutilation. However, a voice recording released on Tuesday by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, reveals Bobrisky allegedly boasting about bribing EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against him. In the recording, he also claimed that he did not serve any jail time following his conviction, stating that arrangements were made for him to stay in a lodge instead.

Umoh, representing Akwa Ibom State, characterized the allegations as “damning,” highlighting the detrimental impact they could have on Nigeria’s reputation as a nation struggling with corruption. He underscored the challenges the country faces in combatting such negative perceptions. In response, the House has resolved to form an ad-hoc committee made up of members with “unquestionable integrity” to investigate these serious allegations and deliver a report within three legislative weeks.

In a related twist, musician Seun Kuti disclosed that he had authorized VeryDarkMan to reveal Bobrisky’s actions, adding further complexity to this unfolding drama.
