In a statement, Theakston expressed optimism about his health, stating, “So – I have cancer – but cancer doesn’t have me.” He assured his audience that the prognosis is “very positive” and he hopes to return to the airwaves by October.

Until then, Theakston will be taking time off to rest his voice, leaving Heart Breakfast in the capable hands of his co-hosts, Jason King (JK) and Amanda Holden. He expressed gratitude to them and the Global radio family for their support during this challenging time.

Theakston closed his message with a note of hope and resilience: “Be thankful for this day, and when I next see you, I’ve got a great story to tell … Jamie x.”
