Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Bans Pilots from Working for Multiple Airlines

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has implemented a significant policy change that restricts licensed flight crew members from working for multiple airlines. This new directive, announced in a circular on November 6, 2024, and signed by Acting Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo, comes in response to surveillance reports that raised concerns about pilots using simulators and proficiency checks to operate across different carriers.

Capt. Najomo clarified that simulators and training facilities, which are authorized for use by specific operators, should not be utilized for multi-airline operations due to the associated safety risks.

The new rule, effective from November 11, 2024, mandates strict compliance from all pilots and airlines. Violations of this policy will be considered breaches of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations and will be met with enforcement measures. Furthermore, any future simulator renewals will be directly linked to a specific airline operator, reinforcing the need for accountability within the sector.
