No Nigerian Lives Lost in Lebanon as Israel-Hezbollah Conflict Intensifies – FG Confirms

As the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalates, the Nigerian government has confirmed that no Nigerian citizens have been harmed in Lebanon. Amid rising tensions in the region, the Federal Government has swiftly initiated plans to ensure the safety of its citizens and began preparations for their evacuation.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reassured Nigerians of their safety, with spokesperson Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe highlighting that the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been actively working to protect nationals. “No Nigerian life has been lost since the conflict began,” the statement stressed, reflecting the government’s commitment to monitoring and securing its citizens in the volatile region.

Nigerians in southern Lebanon, one of the most dangerous zones, have been relocated to safer areas like Beirut with the assistance of community leaders. Though the situation remains unpredictable, Nigerians were advised as early as August 2024 to leave Lebanon voluntarily, while commercial flights were still available.

The conflict worsened this week with Iran launching missile attacks on Israel, prompting Nigeria to accelerate its evacuation efforts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured Nigerians that the government is closely engaged with relevant stakeholders to ensure their protection and safe return home.
