PDP inTurmoil: Mao Ohuabunwa Blames Party Crisis on Disobedience and Selfish Ambitions

Factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, has blamed the ongoing crisis rocking the party on years of disregard for its constitution and the selfish ambitions of some of its top members.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Ohuabunwa described the party’s current troubles as “self-inflicted,” saying they could have been avoided if leaders had remained faithful to the PDP’s founding principles.

“We are where we are today because we failed to obey our own constitution,” he said. “If we had respected our laws and followed the right procedures, things would have been different. Sadly, we keep making the same mistakes.”

Ohuabunwa, a former lawmaker who now leads a parallel PDP Board of Trustees, explained that his faction was created to restore order and integrity to a party he believes has strayed from its moral path.

He accused some members of prioritizing personal gain over the collective interest, arguing that the PDP has become a playground for political ambition rather than a platform for national service.

According to him, “Many have turned the party into a vehicle for their presidential dreams instead of a tool for strengthening democracy. Until we confront this reality, unity will remain elusive.”
