Taraba Temporarily Closes Danbaba Suntai Airport for Major Upgrade

Taraba State Government has officially announced the temporary closure of the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, starting immediately, as part of an ongoing effort to upgrade and modernize the airport. This move, approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, is set to last until December 20, 2024, when operations are expected to resume.

The announcement was made through a press release issued by Kwantar Genesis, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation Development, who emphasized that the closure is essential to ensure the successful and timely completion of several major construction projects.

These include the development of new drainage systems, the construction of a perimeter fence, and an upgrade to the Instrument Landing System (ILS). Additionally, the airport’s runway will be extended from 2.4 kilometers to 3 kilometers, and two new fire tenders will be acquired to enhance safety standards.

Kwantar highlighted the importance of these upgrades, noting that the modernized airport will improve transportation within Taraba State and enhance connectivity with neighboring regions. While the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience to travelers, he assured the public that the measures being taken will ultimately result in a safer and more efficient travel experience.
