Osimhen Matches Odegbami’s Record with Key Goal in AFCON Qualifier

Victor Osimhen reached a historic milestone on Thursday, matching the iconic Segun Odegbami’s record of 23 international goals for Nigeria. The Napoli striker’s crucial header in the 81st minute of the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Abidjan, solidified his place in Nigerian football history.

Osimhen, now on 23 goals from 38 appearances since debuting in 2017, rose above a cluster of Benin defenders to level the score after the Cheetahs took the lead earlier. His achievement puts him in equal standing with Segun Odegbami, who set the same record in 47 appearances between 1976 and 1981.
